3 beautiful short stories

The first story was dull, but the other two were delightful and charming!

An adorable addition to the series as a whole, but nothing too substantial。 I will say, it's definitely worth it to read for the story from Holo's perspective。 An adorable addition to the series as a whole, but nothing too substantial。 I will say, it's definitely worth it to read for the story from Holo's perspective。 。。。more

Taking a break from the 'main' story, _Side Colours_ is a collection of three different side stories set within the Spice and Wolf universe。 Although it is an interesting change, I found it hard to maintain interest in the first side story which did bring the rating down for me a bit。 Overall however, it's not a bad installment and certainly the last side story performs a fantastic bit of character development。The next volume resumes the main story again, but it'll be interesting to see if I fin Taking a break from the 'main' story, _Side Colours_ is a collection of three different side stories set within the Spice and Wolf universe。 Although it is an interesting change, I found it hard to maintain interest in the first side story which did bring the rating down for me a bit。 Overall however, it's not a bad installment and certainly the last side story performs a fantastic bit of character development。The next volume resumes the main story again, but it'll be interesting to see if I find the next installment of side stories in Volume 11 better on average than this one。 。。。more

Isuna Hasekura struggles a bit (compared to the full LN stories) with this set of shorts。 However they are rather nice for fans of the series, although a bit frustrating as they occur prior to previous events, so they only help to flesh out the characters (particularly Holo) a bit more without moving the main story arc forward。My favorite is the last, Wolf and Amber Memories。 It is a bit weak; Isuna Hasekura apparently said he had difficulty writing from Holo's perspective and IMO this shows。 Fo Isuna Hasekura struggles a bit (compared to the full LN stories) with this set of shorts。 However they are rather nice for fans of the series, although a bit frustrating as they occur prior to previous events, so they only help to flesh out the characters (particularly Holo) a bit more without moving the main story arc forward。My favorite is the last, Wolf and Amber Memories。 It is a bit weak; Isuna Hasekura apparently said he had difficulty writing from Holo's perspective and IMO this shows。 For those of you just picking up this series, there are some listings showing where these stories should fit in the overall timeline and you might want to try using that order - the last short occurs after LN vol。 2 and does help to give you an idea how Holo is thinking of things at that point。 。。。more

I bought this one because I like the series。 This one in particular, Side Colors, is an interquel of sorts。 It has three stories。 One takes place between Volume 1 and 2, another takes place between 2 and 3 and the other (I think) predates the main narrative。 I will look over all three and then assign a grade。 The first story is the main story。 It is the longest by far。 It is basically Holo playing Trickster Mentor/Cool Big Sis to a pair of orphan children。 It is from the perspective of one of I bought this one because I like the series。 This one in particular, Side Colors, is an interquel of sorts。 It has three stories。 One takes place between Volume 1 and 2, another takes place between 2 and 3 and the other (I think) predates the main narrative。 I will look over all three and then assign a grade。 The first story is the main story。 It is the longest by far。 It is basically Holo playing Trickster Mentor/Cool Big Sis to a pair of orphan children。 It is from the perspective of one of the children, Klass。 He and his companion, Aryes, are traveling to the ocean so they can fish for a living。 The meat of the narrative is Holo teasing and teaching them (but especially Klass)。 It is an interesting change of pace in more ways than one。 Unlike Lawrence, Klass is never presented as Holo's equal。 It is more like a boy who believes himself more mature than he is traveling with his big sister who is only too willing to prove otherwise。 The fact that he's also traveling with his girl-crush increases the embarrassment potential all the more。 Secondly, this entire story takes place in the wilderness。 They walk through grasslands on a cart road and then a forest。 There is no town and so the cast is very small and the economic factor is likewise diminished。 It is not a complete story but rather a complete "arc" from such a story。 The second story has already been adapted to the anime。 It the part where Lawrence has money changed so he can buy Holo's "town girl" clothes。 It is short and fun。 The real prize is the third story。 This one, I think, has also been adapted to anime。 It is the victory dinner with Nora the shepherdess and Holo falling ill。 This is a gem because it is from Holo's perspective。 It was a fascinating look into her mind。 For instance, she is deliberately Tsundere。 This is for fun but also out of fear。 Trickster Eric Novels gives "Spice and Wolf volume 7 - Side Colors" an A+ 。。。more

I started this short story volume a few months back but after finishing the first story I got distracted by something else and the book sat unloved in my bag for much too long。 It's a shame because the second and third stories are far stronger than the first and once I decided to pick the volume up again, I flew through it in no time at all。 The third story was especially good (view spoiler)[as it was from Holo's PoV and was pretty enlightening in terms of how she viewed Lawrence even all that w I started this short story volume a few months back but after finishing the first story I got distracted by something else and the book sat unloved in my bag for much too long。 It's a shame because the second and third stories are far stronger than the first and once I decided to pick the volume up again, I flew through it in no time at all。 The third story was especially good (view spoiler)[as it was from Holo's PoV and was pretty enlightening in terms of how she viewed Lawrence even all that way back in the story (hide spoiler)] and now I'm left wanting the next volume。 A sure buy for my next physical book bulk order, I think。 :) 。。。more

A cute, mellow read overall。 I honestly didn't care much for the novella; something about Klaus just couldn't keep my attention。 The other two stories were much more enjoyable, and I liked that the third story was from Holo's POV。 Both short stories had some charming interactions between the leads, and the sort of time/space to breathe, so they fit in nicely with the overall series。 A cute, mellow read overall。 I honestly didn't care much for the novella; something about Klaus just couldn't keep my attention。 The other two stories were much more enjoyable, and I liked that the third story was from Holo's POV。 Both short stories had some charming interactions between the leads, and the sort of time/space to breathe, so they fit in nicely with the overall series。 。。。more

Side Colors is a book with 3 short stories that doesn't really have anything to do with the main story-line。 It was both a refreshment and not to read them, as I now am out of Spice and Wolf books to read, and don't know when I'll get my hands on the next in the series! I had hoped to make this one last longer, but I've found that I seem to fly through these books, despite finding the language heavy at times。 Anyway, to this book。 I wrote individual reviews for each of the shorts, and will post Side Colors is a book with 3 short stories that doesn't really have anything to do with the main story-line。 It was both a refreshment and not to read them, as I now am out of Spice and Wolf books to read, and don't know when I'll get my hands on the next in the series! Huh, this is the first Spice and Wolf volume that I haven't given five stars。 Short-story collections are always taboo for me。 I'm always just so meh with all of them。 Isuna Hasekura didn't necessarily disappoint, but this volume inherently did not live up to his prime capabilities that the author has clearly demonstrated when crafting the main series。The first novella was。。。 strange。 I really was not fond of the direction he took with the characters of Klass and Aryes。 (view spoiler)[Klass is l Huh, this is the first Spice and Wolf volume that I haven't given five stars。 Short-story collections are always taboo for me。 I'm always just so meh with all of them。 Isuna Hasekura didn't necessarily disappoint, but this volume inherently did not live up to his prime capabilities that the author has clearly demonstrated when crafting the main series。The first novella was。。。 strange。 I really was not fond of the direction he took with the characters of Klass and Aryes。 (view spoiler)[Klass is literally, what, 12 years old and he is already claiming he loves Aryes。 It only took Holo seven books and thousands of pages to admit she loves Lawrence, so how the eff does that make sense? None of it made sense to me。 (hide spoiler)]Thankfully, the two short stories that followed made up tenfold for the lackluster opening。 The plots were mundane from a story standpoint, but I loved reading about Holo's clothes shopping adventures and brooding and lamentations over being bed-ridden and sick, having to rely on he precious sheep, Lawrence。 The Lawrence x Holo banter was amazing, as always, and the lack of it in the first novella was probably what immediately put me off on it before I even finished the first page。 And I almost forgot to mention, the last short story is in Holo's perspective!!! Finally!! I finally got a glimpse into the mind of one of my absolute favorite characters ever。 What a treat! (view spoiler)[And Holo admitted that she is in love with Lawrence!!! Yes!!! The weakest volume so far, but still enjoyable for a fan of the series。 There is no plot development as the entire volume is composed of side stories, one of Holo's past, two from their journey together。 Of the latter, one is a well-known story from the first few volumes as seen from Holo's perspective which a fan of the series will undoubtedly find to be most interesting。 The weakest volume so far, but still enjoyable for a fan of the series。 There is no plot development as the entire volume is composed of side stories, one of Holo's past, two from their journey together。 Of the latter, one is a well-known story from the first few volumes as seen from Holo's perspective which a fan of the series will undoubtedly find to be most interesting。 。。。more

1st short story is okay, we see Holo as a sister to the new characters and i think she goes a bit too much on the ending。 Also, i think they were the 2 people we see on the anime on s2ep00 where she walks on a beach。2nd story happened between the volume 1 and volume 2 or ep7 of season 1。3rd story is the best of these as we see it on Holo's perspective and there it reveals what she really felt for Lawrence, this is where we, as readers finally know that: "She did so love her sheep。" 1st short story is okay, we see Holo as a sister to the new characters and i think she goes a bit too much on the ending。 Also, i think they were the 2 people we see on the anime on s2ep00 where she walks on a beach。2nd story happened between the volume 1 and volume 2 or ep7 of season 1。3rd story is the best of these as we see it on Holo's perspective and there it reveals what she really felt for Lawrence, this is where we, as readers finally know that: "She did so love her sheep。" 。。。more

Hah, the series finally mellowed down a bit , but that maybe because this is just a collection of "side stories"。 Also, given how the series has been making it so hard to adjust to reality, the slowing of pace was not unwelcome :') I did not care much for the story of Klass and Aryes, but it was nice to read something from Holo's perspective for a change。 Hah, the series finally mellowed down a bit , but that maybe because this is just a collection of "side stories"。 Also, given how the series has been making it so hard to adjust to reality, the slowing of pace was not unwelcome :') I did not care much for the story of Klass and Aryes, but it was nice to read something from Holo's perspective for a change。 。。。more

Welp, that's another light novel finished, and I can honestly state that this is my least favorite volume of the Spice and Wolf series so far。 I feel like the entire story from volumes 1 all the way to 6 were derailed within this volume, which appears to have nothing to do with the main plot, but instead focuses on a series of stories that I don't really care about。Spice and Wolf, volume 7, is a series of three side stories。 The first one was my least favorite, and it was also the longest of the Welp, that's another light novel finished, and I can honestly state that this is my least favorite volume of the Spice and Wolf series so far。 I feel like the entire story from volumes 1 all the way to 6 were derailed within this volume, which appears to have nothing to do with the main plot, but instead focuses on a series of stories that I don't really care about。Spice and Wolf, volume 7, is a series of three side stories。 The first one was my least favorite, and it was also the longest of the three, making it difficult to sludge through。 In short, story one isn't even about Lawrence and Holo。 It's about two kids who meet Holo during their journey and find。。。 love? I'm not sure。 Either way, I can only assume this happened long before Lawrence and Holo meet。Story two, at least, was about Holo and Lawrence, but it happens between what I believe are volumes 1 and 2。 It's basically just Lawrence and Holo being Lawrence and Holo。 While the wit is there and the banter is in fine form, I didn't much care for this because we can get the same wit and banter every volume。 This story did nothing to advance their relationship or the plot, rendering it mostly useless。Story three was the only side story that I liked in this volume。 In it, we get to see Holo's perspective, we learn more about her, and we're given a glimpse of another side of Holo that we haven't seen thus far。 It was interesting, and it redeemed, at least partially, this volume。 It is because of story three that I gate this volume a 3-star rating instead of a 2-star rating。In short, the volume kind of sucks。 However, you probably shouldn't skip it anyway, especially if you have OCD like I do。 。。。more
